Bye For Now.






So, I'm leaving the Blogsphere for a while. Mainly, I think, because I've been here three years and in doing so have started to say things like. Well. Blogsphere.



But it's also because I work with children, and writing about my va-jay-jay isn't really conducive to a promotion. And I don't want this to become an 'I Live in Rome' website. Plus, I'm working really hard on my manuscript for My Heart Beats Only For You (And A Few Dozen Other People) and it's really important to me to save the best stories and the best energy for that. Incidentally, if you're the person from Random House US who reads me- Hi! My book is nearly ready! I might write the odd post on Facebook over the next few months, because when you itch you should totally scratch, right? Follow me here. I'd love it if you did.

Until I'm back know that I am taking Rome head-on, using my vagina so that you don't have to. I'm dead generous like that.

    I am so sorry you're leaving. Keep in touch and, corrupt person I am, I'll miss your vay-jay-jay (metaphorically, of course)and wonderful sense of humor.

    Love you dearly Miss Laura and can only wish you brilliant things in the future for you certaintly do light up my life on a regular basis. I do expect to hear more from you.

    Ian, over the past three years you have encouraged me, supported me, applauded me and made me want to write better than I do because so often your praise is so undeserved. My va-jay-jay will, most certainly, miss you too (urm. Hold on...) and I'm still reading you- I hope that even if the blog is on hiatus, we as online friends will not be.

    Well hey I understand your motives entirely, I worked with kids for a long time and yes you do have to be careful.
    I'll keep you in my reading list though Laura - just in case - but I will follow you on fb and twitter, even though I never check twitter and only seem to use fb to find people to rip it out of on my blog.

    Thanks for the entertainment here, this is one of my favourite blogs.
    I think were we to meet IRL I would find you just as entertaining, in a non-lesbian way you're my kind of girl.
    I will try to say vagina a lot more often on my blog in honour of you. Although I do already say cunt quite a bit.

    I don't want to be gone forever DCG, because I love it here so much. But to finish my manuscript I need a job to support me, and this blog just isn't child friendly. You're right- it's a tough one! IRL we'd drink margheritas and hit on inappropriate men together, I'm sure. It'd be great, and totally blog worthy.

Above my bed

The metre-and-a-half wide frame has hung empty above my bed since July. I paid a man to hang it. I'd harboured, to begin with, reservations about how my feminism and my employment of somebody else to execute the job dovetailed awkwardly, but after I hit myself in the face with a hammer one night, not understanding the difference between a nail at 45 degrees into a diving wall and a drill with a spiral anchor into a brick wall, I decided the most feminist act would be, in fact, to use my hard-earned feminist money to feministly delegate somebody better qualified to help me out - who yes, just so happened to be a man. I have never looked back.  The room needed something above the bed - that's why I got the frame and had it hung - but I couldn't rush to fill it. I teach creative writing, and often what happens is that my students repeat my words back to me and I don't understand that it was me who said them first and it's a headfuck. I love teaching. I love communicating knowledge and I love using my skill with words to package information in a way that lands with the other person. I sort of took it upon myself, at the end of last year, to help one of the girls I used to nanny with her 11+ because I could so clearly identify where her boldest missteps were and part of me thought  maybe I am interfering too much  and then her mother cancelled her tutor and asked me to come over instead and you know what? She aced the exam and I know I played a part in that. After, when she called me to tell me how good she felt about what she'd done, I cried.
